NMSU is a land-grant university with Cooperative Extension Services (CES) faculty in every county in the state. The Cooperative Extension Service is the highly visible, community education arm of NMSU, and is a conduit for attracting students to enroll in NMSU. The University Communication and Marketing Department (UComm) sees the value of having a writer stationed in Albuquerque for easier access to Northern New Mexico to help promote programs provided by the faculty members in each county.
Jane Moorman, Senior Public Information Specialist works with the Extension agents in CES’s Northern District, including Valencia, Bernalillo, Cibola, McKinley, Torrence, Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, Taos, Colfax, San Juan and Socorro counties and the Tribal Extension offices in Shiprock, Crownpoint, Zuni and Dulce promoting the educational outreach programs they provide to their communities, including the youth through 4-H.
Jane also reports on research being conducted at the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences agricultural science centers in Farmington, Mora, Alcalde, Los Lunas, Clayton, and Corona. Additionally, she helps promote the classes and services Albuquerque staff and faculty provide to Northern New Mexico.
Jane’s presence at the Albuquerque Center provides the ability to have personal contact with the Albuquerque and Santa Fe media outlets. UComm has an excellent working relationship with the Albuquerque Journal’s business editor where NMSU press releases are run regularly, including a monthly column highlighting the research being conducted at NMSU’s 12 Agriculture Science centers around the state.
